Exchange of research at an international level
The Faculty welcomes and supports the exchange of research at an international level. Guest professors from abroad also help enrich course offerings each semester, as well as the many doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from abroad. From 2015-2020, the Department of Business Administration even hosts a Guest Chair in International Management funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
There are also an increasing number of courses offered in English, as the faculty seeks to create an attractive environment for exchange and degree-seeking students from abroad. Currently, there are more than 480 international students enrolled at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, which amounts to around 12 percent of all international students at the university.
Key focus regions for the Faculty of Economic Sciences include regions such as Southeast Asia and Latin America. Accordingly, we have faculty members with expertise in these regions:
- Professor of Business Administration, and Chair of Human Resources Management and Asian Business, Prof. Dr. Dr. Fabian J. Froese
- In cooperation with CeMIS: Professor of Development Economics with Focus South Asia (Prof. Dr. Sebastian Vollmer)
- In cooperation with GIGA (German Institute of Global and Area Studies/ Leibniz-Institute for Global and Regional Studies) in Hamburg: Apl. Prof. Dr. Jann Lay
- Ibero-America Institute for Economic Research (Department of Economics): Prof. Stephan Klasen, Ph.D.
To foster staff and student exchange with universities in Asia, the Faculty of Economic Sciences established exchange programmes with Fudan University in Shanghai, China, Kobe University in Kobe, Japan, and with Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. Those progammes are additionally funded by certain programmes of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
