The role of mycorrhiza in rhizosphere priming effects on soil organic matter decomposition

The experiment was conducted in a growth chamber with supplies for continuous labeling with 13C-enriched CO2. Four planted treatments were established with 6 replicates each: Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) symbiosis (wild type) with and without N-, and tomato mutant with highly reduced VA mycorrhizal colonization (rmc; Barker et al., 1998) with and without N-fertilizer. Hence, the total amount of 15N added to N-fertilized and unfertilized pots is similar. Aim of the study is to elucidate the role of VAM in rhizosphere priming on SOM decomposition.
