October 9th - International PhD Day 2019
For new and experienced international PhD studentsAs in former years, the International Office is organizing a Welcome Day for the university's international students. The Göttingen Graduate Schools will contribute with a International PhD Students Day.
You can take part in the following events (all in English):
- Introduction to German Academic Culture. Mini-workshop with Johanna El Ouardy and Nele Hoffmann/Judith Wassiltschenko. We will look at cultural, social and economic influences on German academic life, as well as higher education and offers for PhD students at Göttingen University. You are welcome to contribute with your experiences as a young researcher in Germany. There will be time to discuss the questions you always wanted to ask about German academic culture and living and working in Germany. The venue is the seminar room at GSGG, Friedländer Weg 2.
- Guided city tour. A professional tourist guide will tell us about the history of the city of Göttingen and the university. The meeting point will be next to the Gänseliesel fountain and the Old townhall, see map below.
- Guided tour at the university's north campus with some scientific highlights from the Experimental Botanical Garden and the max Planck Institute for Solar System Reseach.
NB! We offer this program two times simultaneously in opposite running order so you can decide which tour you want to join. You won't miss a part.
Additionally we hold a Meet & Greet with all grad schools. Get in touch with the consultants and PhD student representatives and inform yourself about our guidance, support, and qualification offers for PhD students. You will find us in the Atelier in Studienzentrale at Wilhelmsplatz 4 . Follow the posters!
We will close our day with an enjoyable reception in the beautiful Old Townhall. One of the mayors will give a welcome address on behalf of the Town of Göttingen.
Join us on this exciting day! Get to know your town, your grad school and PhD students from around the globe! It's a perfect occasion to make new friends. For registration write an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
