"The Crucifixion and the Qur'an"

The problem of how Islam understands the crucifixion of Jesus is nearly as old as Islam itself. It is generally assumed that Islam denies the historicity of the death of Christ on the cross. In this lecture we will demonstrate the problematic nature of this assertion by discussing the history of the exegesis of the only verse that entions this event together with a semantic analysis of the quranic verse itself. Other Islamic sources that affirm the crucifixion of Jesus will also be analysed.
