Alumni-Meeting IPB 190314
HEP Alumni-meeting at the IPB, Bogor, Indonesia, 19 March 2014

Objectives

The Higher Eduction Partnership activities aim at extending existing and establishing new networks between the Georg-August University Göttingen and partner universities in Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, and South Africa (North-South) and among partner universities (South-South) for improvement of education and scientific exchange (joint student supervision).

Approach and Expected Results

Scientists of the following disciplines, represented by the participating groups from University of Göttingen, are involved in manifold cooperations:

  • agricultural sciences including tropical agriculture, organic agriculture, plant breeding, food quality, plant protection, animal hygiene, animal husbandry, aquaculture;

  • forestry including forest genetics, forest management, tree physiology, forest inventory and remote sensing, forest ecology;

  • biology, comprising biodiversity, ecology and nature conservation;

  • geosciences, focussing on biogeochemistry, hydrogeology;

  • economics, with development economics, international agribusiness and rural development.

In these disciplines, international postgraduate study programs have been established at the University of Göttingen.

Lecturer and student/tutor exchange aiming at the development of joint curricula and modules, and - for some disciplines and sites in the near future, for others in the long term - at the establishment of international study and double degree programs form the basis of the collaboration. These new structures will be achieved through regular involvement of lecturers from the participating universities in modules at partner universities, in North-South, South-North and South-South exchange visits.

Partner universities on three continents:

  • Indonesia: One node point university (IPB) among three major partner universities (IPB, UGM, UNPAD) and 5 associated universities (UNTAD, UNMUL, UNLAM, UNSYIAH, UNDIP), collaborating with LIPI institute and international centres CIFOR, ICRAF in joint student supervision in research projects

  • Southern Africa: Stellenbosh University

  • Chile: University of Talca

  • Colombia: University of Antioquia
