Titel: Exploration Strategies of Geothermal Energy Potentials for the University Campus of Göttingen

Inhalt:
To substitute the use of natural gas by renewable energies for the district heating of the Göttingen University Campus, we currently explore the potential of geothermal energy in the area of Göttingen by geological and geophysical methods. While the existing heat supplying infrastructure on the Campus is very well suited for the application of deep geothermal energy ressources (ca. 4000 m depth), the knowledge on the geological setting is limited. On the other hand, the complex geological setting offers a possible variety of future production scenarios for geothermal energy. The geophysical method of seismic exploration was developed in Göttingen more than a hundred years ago and we now applied the modern version of theis technique to characterize the geological structures underneath our feet in Göttingen. Based on these results, we are now developing the next exploration steps, which will be also presented at the Colloquium.
