Call for Applications:

Post-doctoral Fellowships for postdocs based at US-American universities or research institutions

Each academic year, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Volkswagen Foundation fund up to twelve post-doctoral Fellowships in the Humanities for stays of 9 to 12 months in Germany. The Lichtenberg-Kolleg in Göttingen is one of the cooperating partners. The Fellowships address postdocs at US-American universities and research institutes working in the Humanities who wish to spend some time at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg working on a research project. The Lichtenberg-Kolleg invites early career scholars to join one of its research teams. The research teams present research at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg with special focus on:

We are also welcoming applications by Post-Docs who work in different research areas as long as their research is connected to research projects in the humanities and social sciences in Göttingen.

To be eligible, applicants should have finished their PhD after 1st October 2013. As this call addresses postdoctoral candidates, the PhD must be completed by the time of application (11 th September 2018). Please also note that, to be eligible under this scheme, candidates must have been based in the U.S. for at least two years directly prior to the application.
Knowledge of German is not required as the Kolleg's and the research groups' working language is English.

Deadline for applications is 11th September 2018. The grants will be awarded for the academic year 2019/2020. In general, the starting month for a fellowship at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg is October. Alternative starting dates may be arranged upon consultation with the host institution after a grant has been awarded.
