Major Research Interests

Our group studies basic and translational aspects of neurodegenerative dementia.

Our aims are:

1.To increase the understanding of the cellular mechanisms underlying the aggregation, toxicity and interneuronal propagation of alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta. A special focus is the investigation of extracellular vesicles in disease propagation.
2.To develop new antecedent biomarkers which allow diagnosis and differential diagnosis of degenerative diseases prior to clinical disease onset.
3.The translation into therapeutical applications ensuing from primary cell cultures and mouse models leading to clinical studies.
