Beschreibung Some years ago Hungary was on the front-pages of international journals with its far right party Jobbik, Movement for a Better Hungary. The party was titled one of the most extreme in Europe. It gained great electoral successes and was able to build an extensive subculture from its followers. Since then, the Hungarian political landscape has been changed by new turns, interests and cleavages. The presentation will introduce when and how the radicalisation started and how the far right scene has developed and changed since 2006. It will analyse the root causes and the main characteristics of the far right subculture and network that has developed and centralized by the far right party Jobbik. The lecture will also focus on the gender perspective, using gender as one of the key aspects with which the nature as well as the changing figure of the far right can be grasped. Doing so, the presenter will analyse the past and present of the far right subculture based on her ongoing research and reflect also on the new developments on the scene.

Anikó Félix is a political analyst and sociologist. She holds an MA in Minority Politics from Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest), where she is currently a PhD Candidate at the Sociology Department. She works at Tom Lantos Institute as the Programme Manager for Jewish Life and Antisemitism, where among other projects, she is co-leading a research project on antisemitism in the Visegrád countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia).
