Transport behaviour within the Biosphere Reserve Rhön (Germany)

Project management: Dr. Tobias Behnen
Project period: April 2009 to January 2010

Project objectives:
The aim of this project was to analyse the spatial behaviour of commuters and to interview the residents concerning transport in the Central German Upland Rhön. The main hypothesis was: “The residents of protected areas like the Biosphere Reserve Rhön accept long commuting distances due to their intense regional identity.”

Quantitative interviews with residents (n=690) were conducted by students during a field trip from September 29th to October 2nd, 2009 in Bavaria (Bischofsheim), Hesse (Gersfeld) and Thuringia (Kaltennordheim and Kaltensundheim).
