All universities in Lower Saxony offer institutional facilities for technology transfer and advice and support for business start-ups. At the University of Göttingen, the Research Department provides this service.


The technology transfer office offers advice about options for transfer within the University as well as establishing contact with businesses and scientific institutions or scientists and scholars. The office facilitates access for smaller and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) as well as public institutions to the universities’ research and development capacities. Close links between scientific bodies and business enterprises should help companies promote and expand their competitiveness through the development of innovative products and services.


The first point of contact for students, graduates and academic staff of the Göttingen universities and research institutions is the Consultancy Service for business start-ups. The advisory service offers professional consultancy for prospective entrepreneurs and compiles a start-up business road map incorporating issues such as the legal form of the new company as well as possible financing for the business enterprise. If certain conditions are met (for technology-based and/or innovative new businesses), the service can award grants from the Start-upCampus+/EFRE or EXIST programmes to develop the idea so that it is ready for market launch.
