Are women not encouraged of writing a dissertation?
Which barriers keep women from finalizing a PhD-thesis?
How can female PhD-students be supported?
Even though a lot of women get better degrees than men their percentage in leading positions remains small. While dealing with evenly-matched numbers of men and women graduating from high school and university the numbers of female PhD-students and professors reveal a drastically different picture. Reasons for that are manifold and can be found on various levels in everyday life. Lack of support in upbringing children, doubts concerning the own academic potential, lack of academic support, and of course the glass ceiling – all of this makes it harder for women to access leading positions.
To inform women about handling these difficulties and about chances in their academic careers the GGG is offering office hours for female PhD-students. In addition we would also like to encourage female students thinking about starting a dissertation to visit us.
