SIS-Geo: A Spatial Information System for the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
A spatial information system (SIS) is being developed and implemented into the Web pages of the Universtity. The main aim of the SIS is to support students, scientists, employees and visitors of the university in everyday life situations on the campus area. The SIS will help to answer questions like "Where is (room / building) ...?" and "How do I get there ...?" based on a user-friendly web interface (flex viewer) as well as on mobile applications for smartphones. The SIS builds on data that are readily available at the university (floor plans from the facility management; room scheduls and staff information from the university calendar UniVZ) and freely available from the Geodata-Community (e.g. street data, points of interest) but have never been integrated in a single application so far.
The system architecture builds on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and open geo-web services and thus enables the integration of any spatial data source.
