Press release: Sustainable support for researchers

No. 175 - 17.09.2019

Welcome Centre collaborates with Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry

The Welcome Centre for the Göttingen Campus and the Südniedersachsen region continues to work hard to strengthen sustainable collaboration with its existing project partners. As a result, the University of Göttingen, as the sponsor of the Welcome Centre of the Göttingen Campus, has now agreed a cooperation agreement with the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen. In the future, researchers at the MPI will be able to take advantage of the Welcome Centre's services for themselves and their families.

The Welcome Centre is a joint institution of the University of Göttingen and the SüdniedersachsenStiftung and is the first point of contact for experts and managers in both business and science across the region. Thanks to two years of funding from the state of Südniedersachsen, the Centre has been able to offer this provision since June 2019.

"The cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry marks an important step forwards in the sustainable establishment of the Welcome Centre," said Professor Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, Vice President for International Affairs at the University. "I am very pleased that our partners at the Göttingen Campus have accepted the proposals of the Welcome Centre so warmly. So the Welcome Centre of the University has developed into a genuine Welcome Centre for the Göttingen Campus".

"It is very important to us that our staff feel welcome and supported in the best possible way right from the start," emphasises Professor Dirk Görlich, Managing Director at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry. "Our institute is already very well positioned here and we are delighted that our newcomers will now also benefit from the expertise and experience of the staff of the Welcome Centre for the Göttingen Campus”.

The Welcome Centre offers researchers at the MPI assistance with visa applications, advice about entering the country and help with important administrative formalities, as well as finding a place to live and childcare.
