Coimbra Group - A European Network

Founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. The Coimbra Group is committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society. It is also the purpose of the Group to influence European educational policy and to develop best practice through mutual exchange of experience.

The Coimbra Group has an office in Brussels, which coordinates and organises all activities of the Group. The main activities are carried out by task forces. The University of Göttingen is active in several task forces, which are staffed by members of centralised and decentralised bodies of the university: E-Learning; Culture, Arts and Humanities; Education, Training and Mobility; Doctoral Studies and Research; Employability and Career Guidance.

At the annual meeting in 2014 in Groningen the Vice-President of International Affairs of the University of Göttingen, Prof. Dr. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, was elected into the Executive Board of the Group.

Vice President:

"I am committed to make greater use of the potential of the Coimbra Group for European collaboration in research. Currently, the network is focusing very much on cooperation in teaching, especially within the framework of the Erasmus program. In addition, I want to initiate joint agreements within the framework of the European research funding program Horizon 2020. "

The Annual Conference 2018 took place in Salamanca from 30 May to 01 June.
