Coimbra Group - A European Network


Founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. The Coimbra Group is committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalization, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society. It is also the purpose of the Group to influence European educational policy and to develop best practice through mutual exchange of experience.

The Coimbra Group has an office in Brussels, which coordinates and organizes all activities of the Group. The main activities are carried out by task forces. The University of Göttingen is active in several task forces, which are manned by members of centralized and decentralized bodies of the university: E-Learning; Culture, Arts and Humanities; Education, Training and Mobility; Doctoral Studies and Research; Employability and Career Guidance.

At the annual meeting in 2014 in Groningen the Vice-President of International Affairs of the University of Göttingen, Prof. Dr. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, was elected into the Executive Board of the Group.

"I am committed to make greater use of the potential of the Coimbra Group for European collaboration in research. Currently, the network is focusing very much on cooperation in teaching, especially within the framework of the Erasmus program. In addition, I want to initiate joint agreements in the framework of the European research funding program Horizon 2020. "

The Annual Conference 2015 will take place in Turkey, 1st-4th June, hosted by the University of Istanbul.
