Major Research Interests

A key aspect of Dr. Christiane Stahl-Hennig’s research includes studies on preclinical prophylactic vaccines against various human pathogenic viral agents, primarily against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) but also against orthopox viruses and respiratory syncytial virus. The ultimate goal is the development of needle free vaccination techniques. In addition, studies on the pathogenesis and pre-exposure prophylaxis are conducted with the help of the AIDS macaque model. In this context, the unit focuses on the research of various mucosal compartments.
