Profile and Perspectives

Founded in 1737, the University of Göttingen is a research university of high international standing. The University is reputed not only for its remarkably diverse range of subjects, but also for its research-led teaching and outstanding scientific environment. In the Excellence Initiative to promote top-level research in Germany, the Georg-August-Universität emerged with success in 2007. This sets Göttingen among the nine German universities rated as meriting international visibility and a place amongst the world’s foremost institutions of higher education.
