Inhalt:
Teaching well is important not only for student learning, but also increasingly for a successful academic career. This workshop aims to professionalize your teaching skills and to make teaching more effective and enjoyable for you and your students. It is a hands-on seminar that focuses on planning academic courses, lecturing well, and matching learning outcomes with teaching methods. It examines ways to engage students, integrate useful writing assignments and assess student progress. Designed particularly for up-and-coming academics, we will cover strategies for finding one´s role as a new instructor. We will discuss different approaches to teaching and learning and assist participants in developing their own profile.


Lernziele:
After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain ways to integrate writing assignments into their classes
  • Use strategies to assess student learning along the way
  • Demonstrate lecture behavior that supports student learning
  • Implement strategies to master difficult situations in the classroom
  • Develop their own approach to teaching

Workshopleitung:
Prof. Dr. Erika von Rautenfeld: She is a native speaker of English (USA). She was the coordinator of the Fortbildungszentrum Hochschullehre (FBZHL) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg until August 2008 and is now a professor for political science at the Georg-Simon-Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg. Her workshops focus on academic writing, public speaking and teaching skills.
Studium in Massachusetts/ USA, Göttingen und Groningen/ NL. Politikwissenschaftliche Promotion an der FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (2008). Bis 2009 Koordinatorin des Fortbildungszentrums Hochschullehre (FBZHL) an der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Seit September 2009 ist Erika von Rautenfeld Professorin für Politikwissenschaft an der Ohm Hochschule – FH Nürnberg. Ihre Schwerpunkte als Trainerin sind Präsentieren, wissenschaftliches Schreiben und Grundlagen der Hochschuldidaktik. Sie bietet alle Kurse auch in ihrer Muttersprache Englisch (USA) an.
