Promotion for young researchers through the AKB Foundation and Alumni Göttingen e.V./ Section agricultural sciences: Assistance for MSc-theses related to developing countries

One research priority of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Göttingen is the resource-efficient agricultural production under global change. Several collaborate research projects involve further university faculties (Research training group on GLOBAL FOOD, CRC 990 Ecological and Socioeconomic Functions of Tropical Lowland Rainforest Transformation Systems, Sumatra, Indonesia or Research Unit FOR 2432 on Social-Ecological Systems in the Indian Rural-Urban Interface: Functions, Scales, and Dynamics of Transition).
In addition, numerous research projects related to developing countries join working groups from several faculties.
This program will support highly qualified Master students by financing field visits in developing countries. The stay abroad as part of the Master thesis (to conduct field visits, surveys, enquiries,...) can take place in collaboration with a university, a research institution or another cooperation partner in a developing country.

Application deadlines:
15 November of a given year for commencement of funding from 1 January of the following year

Application procedure

Please submit the following documents in subsequent order (only one document, PDF, max. 2MB) to Simone Pfeiffer

  • draft proposal explaining the purpose of the planned field work (max. 2 pages)
  • financial plan
  • curriculum vitae in table form
  • academic transcript

  • Funding
    The funding is based on DAAD lump-sums per developing country. It is possible to receive either travel costs or allowance for stay).

      Selection Criteria:
    • Master thesis topic related to a developing country, superviced by a member of CBL-participating faculties or as part of a collaborative research project involving several faculties
    • meaningfull, innovative project and comprehensible financial plan
    • no additional funding available (DAAD, ERASMUS, scholarships ...)

    Request of funded student
    The students are requested to report on their outcomes and experiences (max. 2 pages) latest 4 weeks after return from the funded field visit. They are asked to provide 3 digital fotos documented the stay. After completion of the Master thesis, a digitial version of the thesis have to send for documentation.
