Conquer Babel helps refugees with translations, German lessons and intercultural events

Conquer Babel e.V. was founded in 2015 with the goal to support efforts by the city of Göttingen to integrate the rising numbers of refugees into our community. We are a team of volunteers from various countries and fields of study. We want to help refugees feel at home here in Göttingen as soon as possible. We found that the key to integration is communication. Therefore, we currently offer translation services, 1-on-1-tutoring, and support for elementary school students for their homework.

Our Translation-Team supports refugees e.g. during visits at administrative bodies, visits to the doctor, at social events and house hunting. We can currently offer translations of the languages Arabic, Farsi, Tigrinya, French, Albanian, Urdu, Pashto, Swahili, Russian and the Kurdish dialect Sorani.

At our tutoring program, one student and one refugee meet once a week and the student helps with the German language and homework. Therefore we are also collaborating with a vocational school in Göttingen. With our third offer we help elementary school students, who have problems with German, with their homework.
