Structured Doctoral Programme
The Faculty of Economic Sciences offers a structured doctoral programme which is comprised of a structured programme of study, a thesis committee, and regular review of progress on the doctoral requirements. The objective of the doctoral programme is to prepare students for a successful career in research and teaching as well as in non-academic professions.
For this purpose, in addition to academic research such as dissertation work, students develop specialized skills and techniques that demonstrate research-oriented training. In addition, the doctoral programme fosters professional skills such as team work and interdisciplinary work.
The doctoral programme in economic sciences is captured under the umbrella of the Göttingen Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG). The GGG spans and connects five graduate programmes and faculties in law, social sciences, economic sciences, agricultural sciences and forestry and forest ecology. The granting of doctoral degrees is however autonomous to each faculty, therefore, doctoral candidates in economic sciences receive the title, Dr. rer. pol.
