International Networks

The University of Göttingen is a cosmopolitan university which values cultural diversity as an important resource for research and teaching. As such, it is a member of international university networks such as the Coimbra-Gruppe (Coimbra Group), which is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. The Coimbra Group is committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalization, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society.

In 2008, the Coimbra Group founded the U4Society Network. This network is a strategic partnership among the following universities: Ghent (Belgium), Groningen (The Netherlands), Uppsala (Sweden), Tartu (Estonia) and Göttingen. The Faculty of Business and Economics is actively involved in the strategic networks of the university. The goal is to expand departmental cooperation through joint workshops, summer schools, and student and faculty exchange programmes.

Since 2020, the University of Göttingen is also a member of the ENLIGHT university network. The central idea of the network is to redesign higher education to promote sustainability, global engagement and a quality of life based on equitable distribution. In addition to the University of Göttingen, members of the network include the universities of Bern, Ghent, Groningen, Uppsala and Tartu, the University of the Basque Country, the universities of Bordeaux and Galway, and Comenius University Bratislava.
