Thinking outside the box

Scholars of the faculty are always interested in an exchange with the public and present their research results at public events. For example, on 26 January 2019, researchers from six different chairs for economics and business administration will be taking part in the fourth Nacht des Wissens (night of knowledge). Their lectures will be dealing with topics such as "behavioural finance", sustainability, game theory, social commitment, knowledge gained through experience in crafts or environmental protection in vanilla cultivation in Madagascar.

Prof. Maik Hammerschmidt and Prof. Krisztina Kis-Katos also discussed motives for social commitment and strategies for economic practice in order to combat global poverty with representatives of companies and non-governmental organisations as well as students during the "Future Talks" in April and June. Before the panel discussion they introduced the topic of the evening with short ad lib speeches. Maik Hammerschmidt explained why social commitment is clever, and Krisztina Kis-Katos spoke about the poverty effects of globalisation.
The Future Talks are a new series of events within the framework programme of the Deutschlandstipendium (Germany scholarship). With the new format for the scholarship holders, the university would like to bring together students, sponsors and experts and to discuss socially relevant issues with them.

In addition, the faculty regularly invites representatives from practice, such as managing directors of well-known companies, to lectures or discussion events. In May, for example, Prof. Heinz-Walter Große, chairman of the management board, director of human resources and legal affairs as well as labour director of B. Braun Melsungen AG and alumnus of the faculty, reported on his everyday professional life and introduced his company to interested students and residents of Göttingen.

On April 26, 2018, the Girls' Day, Prof. Claudia Keser and her team opened their computer lab for behavioural economic experiments and showed in game theory computer simulations how people make economic decisions in certain situations and what effects these decisions have. At the Chair of Information Management, the Sustainable Mobility Research Group tested electric bicycles with the participants and gave an insight into their research projects on sustainable mobility.
