Ceremonial lecture: Jurists and justice - graduation celebration of the Faculty of Law - Awards for research and teaching

The Faculty of Law of the University of Göttingen dismissed its graduates with a festive event on Friday, 15 July 2011. In the last semester, 104 students successfully completed their studies of law and 48 doctoral students their dissertation. After the diploma certificates and doctoral certificates were handed over, among others the faculty prize for the best dissertation was awarded at the celebration. The ceremonial lecture on the subject of "Jurists and justice" was held by Marion Eckertz-Höfer, the president of the Federal Administrative Court. The event took place in the assembly hall at the Wilhelmsplatz. After some welcoming words by the dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Andreas Spickhoff, and the ceremonial lecture, Eike Bleckwenn held the graduate speech on the subject of "Studying the art of law". Then two prizes were awarded for the best lectures in the Winter semester 2010/11. Sebastian Recker, scientific employee at the chair of Prof. Dr. Frank Schorkopf, was honoured for his "Accompanying lecture to amend the lecture on state law II" with the teaching award for the best accompanying lecture. The prize for the best class of the basic studies was awarded to Prof. Dr. Andreas Wiebe for his lecture "Basic Course BGB II". The faculty prize for the best dissertation went to Dr. Jörn Heckmann, former scientific employee at the chair of Prof. Dr. Gerald Spindler and currently legal clerk in the Higher Regional Court district of Bremen. He received the award for his work "Retrospective digitalisation of print publications". In the scope of the celebration, the faculty congratulated Dr. Günter W. Zwanzig, retired mayor of Weißenburg, on his golden promotion.
