A1 Solar turbulent convection probed by helioseismology

Prof. Dr. Laurent Gizon, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Hohage

The aim of this project is to extract information on solar subsurface convective flows from the most recent helioseismology data sets. This leads to very large scale inverse problems described by systems of convolution equations with randomly perturbed right hand sides. Currently used inversion methods involve a high degree of subjectivity in the choices of averaging kernels and regularization parameters. We aim to develop and implement efficient, objective, reliable and in a certain sense even optimal inversion methods to infer the statistical properties of solar 3D turbulent flows.
