A13 Hydrodynamical interaction of young galaxies with the intergalactic medium

Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kollatschny, Prof. Dr. Jens Niemeyer

Galaxies at high redshifts interact with the intergalactic medium through inflows and outflows. We will investigate the interplay of cold and hot accretion, star formation, and outflows using a combination of cosmological simulations and observations, focusing on the physical production mechanisms and conse-quences of turbulence in the in- and outflowing gas. Detailed predictions for Lyman α emitters drawn from the simulated sample will be derived and compared with observations from the HETDEX survey and the MUSE instrument. Turbulence in accretion disks around supermassive black holes will be measured using a new observational technique.
