Internationalisation is one of the key requirements for creating excellence in research and teaching. In light of this fact, the University of Göttingen plans to enhance international involvement both in its teaching and its research programmes. One goal is to improve the offers and services provided to visiting researchers and students; another is to promote schemes that support outgoing mobility. To attract a greater number of outstanding foreign researchers and students and to enable more German students to gather international experience through academic stays abroad: these are two key objectives of "Internationalisation 2012". This project constitutes an enhancement both in quality and in quantity of the internationalisation concept previously developed by the University of Göttingen in the context of its Excellence Initiative.

As part of this project, the University of Göttingen is currently promoting the following schemes for the years 2011 and 2012: a scheme to attract foreign guest lecturers; the internationalisation of its graduate schools; the implementation of international Summer Schools for German and foreign participants; and the introduction of study components taught in English for Bachelor programmes. Moreover, it is offering scholarships to foreign students for participation in German language courses and to German students for the realisation of a stay abroad.

The University of Göttingen is proud to be part of a growing research and teaching network. Join us in supporting and using the benefits of this international network! We hope to convince of the advantages offered by the new schemes and would be pleased to welcome you as an active participant.
