Diversity

The University of Göttingen pursues a comprehensive diversity policy: Diversity orientation is deeply rooted as a cross-cutting task in developing the unique profile and strategy of the university. With the signing of the Charter of Diversity (“Charta der Vielfalt”), the development of a diversity strategy and participation in the diversity audit “Shaping Diversity” of the Stifterverband, it has affirmed this orientation. The aim is to create an organisational structure and culture that is geared to diversity and that offers all members and employees of the University equal opportunities and protection against discrimination, regardless of their origin and life situation.

The University supports all its employees in further developing their skills so that they can study successfully and perform outstandingly in their careers. At the same time, it is working to reduce discrimination and thus continuously improve the general conditions for research, studies and teaching as well as the promotion of early career researchers. In doing so, it pursues a research-oriented and research-based strategy that takes current research results as well as good practice approaches into account. At the same time, tried and tested policies of gender equality, improved compatibility of family and work and inclusion of people with disabilities and impairments are linked to new measures.

The University's diversity work comprises projects and support for individual target groups but aims in the long term at the fundamental further development of University structures and at a sustainable diversity-oriented culture change. In this, the University cooperates in many ways with the city of Goettingen and the region as well as with the partner institutions of the Göttingen Campus.

The Equal Opportunities and Diversity Unit coordinates the diversity-oriented organisational development. It advises organisational units as well as specialists and executives on the development and implementation of diversity-oriented strategies (diversity consulting). It supports the development of new projects and measures as well as the expansion of information and further training opportunities. A particular focus is on the diversity-oriented further development of studies and teaching. Other diversity-oriented measures and activities are implemented by other actors within the University at centralised and decentralised levels.
