Doctoral studies

Enrolment in 5 steps

This description is valid for the enrolment for a doctoral degree for all applicants (EU and non-EU). If you are already enroled at Göttingen, you can have your course of study changed at the Office of Student Affairs after receiving your "acceptance as a doctoral student" (Step 1).


Paperless enrolment
Please send us your documents as digital copies. The data formats pdf, jpg, tiff, doc and docx will be accepted.

Applying to the faculty

As a doctoral student, you can enrol if you have a written statement from the dean of your faculty on your acceptance as a doctoral student as well as the confirmation from your doctoral advisor. Details on the formal admission prerequisites can be found in the doctoral regulations of the faculties.

Online enrolment

The enrolment process at the University of Göttingen is via an online form.

Sending in your documents

After you have entered your data, you will receive a registration number and a form to print out and sign. The form contains a list of documents which you will need to send to us. Make a digital copy of each document including the original form and send them to infoline-studium@uni-goettingen.de.

Transfer of semester fees

When uploading your documents, please also transfer the semester fees to the University. Your registration will only be finalised upon receipt of your payment. Please note: do not forget to state your application number and name in the transfer order.

Payment by transfer

Please transfer the semester fees in due time to the university bank account.
