Dr. Welf Weiger is the new Assistant Professor of Digital Marketing

Dr. Welf Weiger is the new Assistant Professor ("Juniorprofessor") of Digital Marketing at the University of Göttingen Faculty of Economic Sciences, as of December 15, 2017. His junior professorship position has been newly created.

His research interests are in the areas of customer engagement in social media, social buzz, social media marketing, online advertising, and gamification. At the Faculty of Economic Sciences, he will mainly offer courses for bachelor’s and master’s students in business administration.

Welf Weiger, born in 1981, studied business administration at the University of Mannheim. During his studies, he also worked for several years in online marketing at SAP AG. In 2016, he completed his PhD at the University of Göttingen with a dissertation on the antecedents and outcomes of user engagement in social media.

Between 2015 and 2016, he had several research visits at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in the US. Welf Weiger is a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the European Marketing Academy (EMAC). In addition, he reviews manuscripts for various academic journals (e.g. Journal of Service Management and European Journal of Marketing).
