As the only Protestant faculty in Austria, the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Vienna has made it its special task, responsibility and duty to represent the Protestant perspective on theology in Austria and to preserve the memory of the Austrian Protestant tradition.

The Faculty has committed itself to several principles in research and teaching: the principle of Protestant freedom and the humane postulates of freedom as well as freedom of research; the responsibility for a humane society; respect for the views of others and following from this the readiness for dialog; respect for human dignity, especially with regard to the equal treatment of men and women, people from different social milieus and the integration of people with disabilities; special respect for religious minorities, to which it feels particularly committed because of the history of Protestantism as a minority in Austria.
