The Faculty of Chemistry in Göttingen looks back on a long tradition that reaches back as far as the founding years of the Göttingen University. Since its beginnings the Faculty has been distinguished by an orientation towards research; twelve Nobel Prize winners have a connection with the Faculty. Today the Faculty builds upon interdisciplinary, networked research in three core areas (functional biomolecular chemistry; molecular catalysis; energy conversion – processes and materials). Close associations with the neighbouring faculties and several Max Planck Institutes facilitate the adoption of modern approaches in research. The Faculty’s commitment to research is mirrored in the range of courses offered. Students gain practical experience early in their education by participating in ongoing research projects – a feature unique to the Faculty of Chemistry.
