Göttingen Pune Outreach Center (GPOC)
The Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune inaugurated the Göttingen Pune Outreach Center (GPOC) at IISER Pune on 25th of November 2016. GPOC, funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is a new and exciting collaboration between IISER Pune and the University of Göttingen (UGOE) and it will be a unique project with focus on science outreach.
Strengthening the Indo-German research landscape in academic cooperation and research
With the support of UGOE's academic partners in Pune, the outreach center will focus on events and activities that inculcate research based - inquiry oriented learning. The intent of GPOC is to have a learning space that could have elements such as - an exhibition area, information about Göttingen Campus, working experiments (UGOE has three experiments from PhyWe)/demo models, Nobel prize experiments (in collaboration with Nobel Museum, Stockholm), and space for open discussions. The space will be open to public and can be utilized for academic events.
The Göttingen Pune Outreach Center is expected to host the Göttingen India Forum - series of public talks with highlighting Indo-German research collaboration, in addition to Science Slams, exhibitions, higher education and research fairs, etc. to list a few. Students in higher education programs will be benefit from mentorship provided at the Outreach Centre by scientists from Göttingen and India.
Structure of the Pavilion
The pavilion (Type 3/210 m2) is designed by renowned German Architect Mr. Markus Heinsdorff. A total of 18 such pavilions were designed for Indo-German Urban Mela within the framework of Germany and India: Infinite Opportunities 2012-2013, which marked the 60th Anniversary of Indo-German diplomatic ties. After a successful road show, one of the pavilions has been installed at IISER Pune permanently.
