  • Dr. Markus C. Arnold: Award 2005 of the TU Clausthal
    Dr. Markus C. Arnold, Chair of Financial Control, was awarded as one of two laureates for his dissertation 'Anreizwirkungen von Stock Options - Agencytheoretische Analyse von Motivations-, Investitions- und Diversifikationsproblemen'. The prize is endowed with 2000 €. It was awarded within an academic ceremony on October 28, 2005.



  • Professor Dr. Hartmut Berghoff: Newcomen-Harvard Article Award 2006
    The assessors of the "Business History Review", a journal published by Harvard University, have selected the paper "The End of Family Business? The Mittelstand and German Capitalism in Transition, 1949-2000" as the best essay of their journal from the year 2006 and have given the author, Professor Dr. Hartmut Berghoff (Chair of Economic and Social History) the Newcomen-Harvard Article Award 2006. Professor Berghoff will receive $1,000 from the Newcomen Society of the United States.



  • Harvard Business School Fellowship awarded to Professor Berghoff, 2006
    Professor Dr. Hartmut Berghoff was awarded Harvard's esteemed 'Alfred D. Chandler, Jr., International Visiting Scholars in Business History Program'. The Business History Unit, an integral part of the research and teaching in Management and Business Administration at Harvard Business School, is regarded as the world's leading research establishment in business history. It build up its reputation through the seminal studies of Alfred D. Chandler, Jr. Professor Berghoff took a sabbatical term and accept the invitation to Harvard. During his stay, which was in March 2006, he conducted research in the history of marketing and consumption.



  • Professor Dr. Hartmut Berghoff Finished Second in Competition 'Das Historische Buch 2004' (The Historical Book 2004)
    Professor Dr. Hartmut Berghoff, Chair of Economic and Social History, finished second in competition 'Das Historische Buch 2004' (The Historical Book 2004) of the web forum 'H-Soz-u-Kult' for the best historical new publication of the year (Category 'Recent History'). He published the awarded book 'Wirtschaftsgeschichte als Kulturgeschichte' with his co-editor Jakob Vogel.



  • Dr. Jan Bulla: Winner of the Award of the Commerzbank Foundation 2006
    Dr. Jan Bulla, Faculty of Economic Sciences, was awarded with the award of the Commerzbank Foundation 2006 of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen for his dissertation ('summa cum laude'). He composed his dissertation at the Institute Institute for Statistics and Econometrics, Prof. Dr. Walter Zucchini. The price is endowed with 1.500,- €. It is awarded for excellent dissertations at the Georgia Augusta since ten years.

  • Dr. Alexander Engel: Awarded with the "Friedrich-Lütge-Preis" 2009
    Dr. Alexander Engel, Chair of Economic and Social History, has received the Friedrich Lütge Award 2009 from the Society of Social and Economic History for his dissertation on the history of global dye markets. The prize is endowed with 1.500 Euro and is given every two years for excellent dissertations in the field of social and economic history. Entitled "Colors of Globalisation. The Origin of Modern Markets for Dyes 1500-1900", the dissertation has been published by the Campus publishing house, Frankfurt.



  • Dr. Alexander Engel: Awarded with the K. Austin Kerr Prize 2009
    At the joint annual convention of the European Business History Association (EBHA) and the North American Business History Conference (BHC) in June 2009 in Milan, the largest conference of business history in the past years worldwide, Dr. Alexander Engel, Chair of Economic and Social History, was awarded the K. Austin Kerr Prize 2009. The BHC gives the award "for the best first paper delivered at the annual meeting [...] by a new scholar [...]. Criteria for awarding the prize include scholarly excellence; innovation in subject, method, or findings; and effectiveness of presentation". With his paper entitled "Coloring markets. The industrial transformation of the dyestuff business revisited" Mr. Engel was the first scientist outside of North America to receive this high distinction.



  • Dr. Robert W. Gregory: Award 2011 of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation
    Dr. Robert W. Gregory, Chair of Electronic Finance and Digital Markets, was awarded as one of two laureates with the award 2011 of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation for Communications Research for his dissertation “Management and Evolution of Global IS Outsourcing Relationships: A Longitudinal Case Study“. The prize is endowed with 5.000 Euro. It is awarded within an academic ceremony in Stuttgart on October 7, 2011.



  • Best Publication of Junior Researchers 2006. Award of the Foundation Board of Georg-August-Universität Göttingen for Juniorprofessor Dr. Michael Grimm and Isabel Günther
    Juniorprofessor Dr. Michael Grimm and Isabel Günther won the award of the Foundation Board of Georg-August Universität Göttingen for the best publication of junior researchers 2006. They have been awarded for their paper 'Measuring pro-poor growth when relative prices shift'. Their paper was published as part of an international research project about pro-poor growth in developing countries in the 'Journal of Development Economics'.

  • Professor Stephan Klasen, PhD, Member of the 'Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen' Professor Stephan Klasen, PhD, Chair of Development Economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, is member of the Philological-Historical Class of the 'Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen' since April 1, 2007.



  • Dr. Maik Hammerschmidt: Best Paper Award from the "2011 AMA Winter Marketing Educators' Conference", 2011
    Dr. Maik Hammerschmidt was recognized by the American Marketing Association (AMA) with the Best Paper Award in the Sales, CRM, and Business to Business track at the AMA Winter Marketing Educators' Conference in Austin, Texas, USA. The AMA is the best-known marketing conference worldwide. The paper "Exploring Spillover Effects of Post-Sale Services in Vertical Service Delivery Networks" won the award and was written by Maik Hammerschmidt together with Tomas Falk, Professor Jeroen Schepers and Professor Lisa K.   • Professor Stephan Klasen, PhD, Winner of the World Bank Green Awards 2006 for the Advancement of Enduring Development Projects
    Professor Stephan Klasen, PhD, was awarded with the World Bank Green Award 2006 for his co-operation in the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.



  • Dr. Ingo Köhler: Awarded with the Prize of Corporate History of the 'Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte'
    Dr. Ingo Köhler, Chair of Economic and Social History, won the First Prize of the Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte for his dissertation on "The 'Aryanization' of private banks in the Third Reich and the problem of Restitution". This prestigious award comes with a considerable prize money and an additional grant to publish the dissertation. The award was be presented to Ingo Köhler at the 28th Public Lecture of the Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte at the Bertelsmann Company in Berlin, in March 2005.



  • Dr. Ingo Köhler: Awarded with the 'Friedrich-Lütge-Preis' of the 'Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte'
    In addition Dr. Ingo Köhler, Chair of Economic and Social History, was awarded with the 'Friedrich-Lütge-Preis' of the 'Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte' (under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Rolf Walter) for his dissertation on "The 'Aryanization' of private banks in the Third Reich and the problem of Restitution". The award was presented to Dr. Ingo Köhler in Regensburg in March 2005.



  • Christina Lubinski: Awarded by the 'Arbeitskreis für kritische Unternehmens- und Industriegeschichte (AKKU)' ('Research group for critical business history') with the Prize for Junior Researchers 2006
    Christina Lubinski, Chair of Economic and Social History, by the 'Arbeitskreis für kritische Unternehmens- und Industriegeschichte (AKKU)' ('Research group for critical business history') with the prize for junior researchers 2006 for her master's thesis 'Mikropolitik im Maschinenbau: Betriebsorganisation und Arbeiterverhalten in den mechanischen Werkstätten der Handelsgesellschaft Jacobi, Haniel & Huyssen (JHH) in den 1860er und 1870er Jahren' (submitted at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in the year 2005).



  • Professor Inmaculada Martínez-Zarzoso, Ph.D.: "CREMed Best Paper Award 2009-2010", 2010
    The Center for the Research on the Economies of the Mediterranean (CREMed) granted its Best Paper Award 2009-2010 to the article “Economic integration and the two margins of trade: An application to the Euro-Mediterranean agreements” from Professor Inmaculada Martínez-Zarzoso, Ph.D. (Department of Economics / Jaume I University, Spain), Sami Bensassi (Jaume I University, Spain) and Laura Márquez-Ramos (Jaume I University, Spain). The article was also accepted into the CREMed Working Paper Series and can be downloaded here.



  • Dr. Andreas Poppe: Wolfgang Ritter Prize 2008 from the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation
    Dr. Andreas Poppe, Chair of Domestic and International Taxation, was awarded the Wolfgang Ritter Prize 2008 by the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation for his dissertation at the University of Göttingen on systematic changes to corporate tax regulations on domestic companies.


  • Dr. Johannes Rincke: Awarded with the 'Peggy and Richard Musgrave Prize of the International Institute of Public Finance, 2006'
    Dr. Johannes Rincke, former PhD student at the Chair of Public Finance at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Prof. Dr. Robert Schwager), won the best paper award at the Annual Conference of the International Institute of Public Finance for his paper 'Yardstick competition and public sector innovation' (for authors with an age under 40 years).



  • Stefan Schüder and Denis Wendt: "Leadership Award from the Global Conference on Business and Finance", 2011
    During the Global Conference on Business and Finance (Winter 2011) from the Institute for Business and Finance Research (IBFR), Stefan Schüder and Denis Wendt, research assistants for Professor Gerhard Rübel, Professor for International and Monetary Economics, were recognized with the Leadership Award for the lecture they held at the conference on behalf of Göttingen University. The award is granted once during the conference "in recognition of an ongoing commitment to faculty development and in appreciation of research support provided to the academic communities".
    Stefan Schüder spoke about "Monetary Policy Trade-Offs in a Portfolio Model with Endogenous Asset Supply”. The lecture was also selected by conference participants as the best lecture, giving it the Best in Session Award as well. Denis Wendt's lecture covered "Inflation in Market and Bank Based Countries: Do Monetary Credibility, Global and Structural Factors Matter?“



  • Stefan Schüder: "Young Economist Award" of the "13th Annual Conference of the International Network for Economic Research (INFER)", 2011
    Stefan Schüder, research assistant for Professor Gerhard Rübel, Professor for International and Monetary Economics, was recognized with the "Young Economist Award" for his paper "Monetary Policy Trade-Offs in a Portfolio Model with Endogenous Asset Supply". It was granted during the 13th Annual Conference of the International Network for Economic Research (INFER) in London.
