Indian Visiting Professor at the Department of Ecumenical Theology

In October 2011, Dr. Hubert Watson began his one-year research stay at the Department of Ecumenical Theology in Göttingen.

Watson is a professor of the Karnataka Theological College in Mangalore (KTC) in the Indian state of Karnataka. There, he teaches Systematic Theology and has been welcoming Prof. Tamcke for guest lectures last year. The relationship between the KTC and the Department of Ecumenical Theology is based on a partnership agreement.

Prof. Watson also takes over teaching responsibilities in Göttingen. Thus, in winter semester 2011/2012, he is giving a seminar on ‘Gender in Indian Christianity’. Moreover, he is hoping to accomplish a book project on basic questions of mission in India during his stay in Germany.

Prof. Watson did his doctorate at the University of Regensburg/Germany on the question of the reception of contemporary christological approaches in the Indian context (Moltmann, Sobrino, Hick). It is the first time that a professor from Mangalore is staying in Göttingen for one year. Thus, the sojourn shall also serve to strengthen the cooperation between Göttingen and Mangalore.
