Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology

International Contacts

The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology has a strong international profile, which is seen not only in the numerous research projects and co-operations with institutes abroad, but is also expressed in the programmes offered. With respect to the internationally orientated programmes offered and activities above and beyond (alumni programmes, university co-operation), the faculty leads the way in the German speaking part of Europe . International partnerships intensify co-operation in research and teaching at the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology. The Faculty has in recent years attracted a high number of international students and postgraduates. In contrast to the general trend, the number of international students enrolled at the faculty has increased. In the winter semester 2002/2003 the international students were more than one third of the new enrollment, which is above average.

Since 1968, the faculty has had international co-operation with European partners, as well as a strong focus on tropical and subtropical developing countries in Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Co-operation with eastern European countries is increasing. As a consequence, both research and teaching are internationally oriented. The teaching staff has many years of experience with international research and development organisations such as FAO, ICRAF, ICRISAT, GTZ and partner universities world-wide. The faculty also plays a key role in international associations (for example, the Executive Committee of the International Union of Forest Research Organisations).
