Manuscript Seminar (Nr. 700295)


Overview


Mix of theory and practice:

  • Develop rules for writing different parts of a manuscript
  • Develop rules for reviewing
  • Develop rules for good scientific practice
  • Write your own manuscript over the course of the seminar
  • Learn and practice how to review papers


Contact time:

  • Two hours per week


Assignments (requirement for credits):

  • Writing exercises (80% of all exercises must be submitted)
  • Evaluation of peers' texts (80% of all evalutaions must be submitted)
  • Protocol of one seminar session per person


Maximum number of participants: 24

  • Participants are chosen depending on the registration form (see below)


Recommended literature:

  • Wallwork (2011): English for writing research papers, Springer
  • Day & Gastel (2006): How to write and publish a scientific paper, Cambridge University Press



Preconditions

  • Good English knowledge
  • At least preliminary data available to fill at least one figure or one table
  • Active participation by everybody throughout the entire semester
  • External supervisor who will also read and evaluate assignments

  • Preliminary entry in list of participants is required in paralell to sending us the registration form below
  • If you are accepted into the course based on the registration form, you will find yourself in the final list of participants in studIP, if not you'll receive an email before the first seminar session
