Philosophy (M.Ed.)

Course description

This degree programme is a continuation of the two-subject Bachelor's degree programme in philosophy with a career objective of teaching the subject of philosophy at the secondary school level. The specialised portion of this degree program is limited to two modules to be optionally selected from among the fields of theoretical philosophy, practical philosophy or history of philosophy, in which selected subjects relevant to schooling will be studied on the current scholarly level. A correspondingly greater weighting is placed on the specialised didactic, practical and education scientific aspects of this course of studies.

Course Structure

The specialised degree programme includes two elective-compulsory modules in theoretical or practical philosophy or the history of philosophy (14 credits), one didactic module (7 credits) and a specialised didactic module a school internship (8 credits). Additionally, there is the other teaching subject with a further 29 credits and the educational science components comprising 36 credits and a master termination module (6 credits). The Master's thesis (20 credits) is written in one of the two teaching subjects.

Language requirements during studies

A good knowledge of English, which enables students to read specialised academic texts, is essential.
