As of January 1, 2012, Dr. Johann Kranz will take up the newly created junior professorship in computer science of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Göttingen: „I am already very much looking forward to the great environment at the University of Göttingen.”

The research focus of the 31 year old lie primarily in the area of information systems (IS) in convergent industries, information management, IS innovation and entrepreneurship, digital media, Smart Grid (i.e. intelligent power supply system) and green IT. His focus is mainly on the convergence between IT and the branches of telecommunication, media and energy. „The focus of my lectures that I will mainly offer in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in business administration and business information systems will be closely related to my research interests,“ says Kranz. „And I see to it that the content is current, relevant to practice, but also theoretically sound. It is also very important to me that the courses are interactive and students are given plenty of room for discussion and independent work.”

After studying business information systems at the universities of Leipzig and San Sebastián, Spain, Johann Kranz worked since October 2007 as a research associate at the Institute for Information, Organisation and Management at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Arnold Picot). While working, he acquired the Master of Business Research (MBR) and was a Visiting Scholar at the Columbia Institute for Tele-Information (Prof. Eli Noam) at Columbia University in New York.
In his award-winning dissertation, Kranz dealt with the convergence between information and communication technologies (ICT) and the energy supply system („e-Energy“ and „Smart Grid“). The focus of his dissertation was on cumulative studies of technology and regulatory acceptance of innovative technologies and ICT infrastructures in Smart Grids.
