My research focuses on evolutionary and developmental biology with an emphasis on lophotrochozoan invertebrates, in particular molluscs and polychaetes. I apply morphological and molecular techniques to study body plan evolution and neurophylogeny. Currently, I am investigating the ontogeny of the larval shell and nervous and muscle systems of the pulmonate snail Lymnaea stagnalis in order to generate a precise roadmap to the development of this species. This resource will then be used as a reference for functional studies of gene expression. The techniques I use consist of immunohistochemistry, fluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopy and 3D computational modelling.
