Reproductive strategies of weedy flowering plants in tropical rainforest transformation systems

Elvira Hörandl

The new subproject aims to study the effect of reproductive strategies of frequent, partly invasive weeds on the tropical rainforest transformation systems of the SFB. We will analyse mode of reproduction, genetic diversity, and abundance of two model plants (melastomes and grasses). These data will be correlated to biodiversity, abiotic features and socioeconomic functions from the other subprojects at a local and at a landscape scale. The main goal of the project is to test the hypothesis that asexually reproducing weeds have a major impact on ecological and socioeconomic functions of tropical rainforest transformation systems.
