Key skills

Key skills are skills that go beyond pure subject knowledge. They are categorised into method, self-, social, and technical skills. As they are essential for a student’s academic work and career prospects, they are called ‘key skills’. In the context of a degree programme in Chemistry, key skills can be acquired in different ways:

Integrated key skills are ‘learnt along the way’ in the context of regular courses, like, e.g., working safely in a laboratory during a practical course.

Additional key skills are acquired in separate courses that are dedicated to one particular topic, e.g., language courses or presentation techniques training.
