Special support for participants with disabilities

Inclusion and equal opportunities are central concerns of the Erasmus+ programme. For students as well as for university staff with disabilities, there is therefore the possibility of receiving additional support for additional costs due to the stay abroad.

Beneficiaries with disabilities may apply for an Erasmus+ special grant in addition to the regular Erasmus+ mobility allowance for study or internship stays or for teaching or continuing education abroad.

Depending on the additional financial needs, there are two types of subsidies available:

  • one-off grant
Due to the award procedure only relevant for students. Participants receive a "social top-up" of 200€ in addition to the monthly funding rate of the respective country group (Note: the social top-up replaces the top-up for interns). Zero grant periods are excluded from funding. Only the degree of disability has to be proven.

  • personal application for additional funding of up to € 10,000
The preparation of the Erasmus+ stay is expected to include an estimate of the additional costs likely to be incurred during Erasmus+ mobility or in the host country and not covered by other payers (evidence required). For example, additional costs for barrier-free accommodation, assistance with travel, medical care abroad, adaptation of study materials or an accompanying person are taken into account. These additional expenses must be proven by original receipts no later than four weeks after the stay.

Students should take advantage of BAföG for a stay abroad with Erasmus - regardless of the application for additional funding.

General requirements:
