M.Sc. Program International Agribusiness and Rural Development Economics (IARD)

The M.Sc. Program International Agribusiness and Rural Development Economics lasts 19 months plus two additional months for the German Language course. It runs from the beginning of January to the end of September in the next year (e.g. January 2011-April 2012).

The first and second semester is taken at the University of Talca from the beginning March to the end of June and from July until the end of September. Students can take up to five modules per semester and up to two modules jointly offered by University of Talca and Göttingen University.

After completing the second semester, some students move to Göttingen and spend the third semester from October to February in Germany. Other students stay at their home university (UTalca) and finish their studies there.

Please note: In the group of DAAD-scholars, the students with a scholarship for Germany will be selected according to academic performance, language and intercultural competence, the quality of the thesis proposal and performance in a personal interview. The students with their own financial sources can choose, if they want to continue in Germany or at their home university.

The selection process and the selection criteria are described in the following document:

Selection Criteria Germany

Students can choose from a wide variety of modules offered either by the Agriculture faculty or another Academic Unit in the University at a Master Level. At the end of the third semester, students present their research proposal.

From Aprils to August of the next year, students collect their data either in Latin America, their home country or in Germany; they prepare their master Thesis and make the final presentation.

By the end of September students are expected to graduate from the programme.
