The University of Göttingen was honoured with the TOTAL E-QUALITY Science Award for exemplary dedication in the domain of equal opportunities for the second time. In granting the award, the jury stated: "The University of Göttingen has a comprehensive and modern equal opportunities concept and is very advanced in the implementation of aspects of equal opportunities between women and men. The subject of equal opportunities is not only understood as a strategic element of the university structure and development planning, but also as a self-commitment.“ The award is granted for three years. The University of Göttingen was already successful with its equal opportunities concept in 2007. The awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday, 4 October 2011, in Berlin.
The jury particularly stressed the fact that the equal opportunities work at the University of Göttingen has received new impulses since the last application, especially through the participation at national and regional science-policy programmes. This includes, among others, the achievements in the programme for women in the professorate and the award in the framework of the research-oriented gender equality standards of the DFG (German Research Foundation). The profound change of the University of Göttingen towards a modern Excellence University is also closely connected to the support of women and equal opportunities of the genders.
The award is presented by the asssociation TOTAL E-QUALITY Germany. This association is committed to establishing and sustainably embedding equal opportunities of women and men in the domains of economy, academia, politics and personnel policy and thus aims at bringing about a paradigm shift in the domain of personnel policy. The initiative is supported by the Federal Ministries of Education and Research as well as of Family, Elders, Women and Youth. Further information can be found online: www.total-e-quality.de
