Learning Objectives:
Course content at a glance: At the moment, the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) and Regulation (MiFIR) are one of the most important regulatory projects for the European financial markets. In the foreground is, amongst other plans, the electronic securities trading. The reason for this are especially the advancements in technology (e.g. HFT) which become more and more popular. The goal of the seminar is to examine this part of the regulation, particularly the requirements and the implications for electronic trading. The participants are going to work on their seminar papers together with students from the University of Frankfurt. Students are expected to work in a project group, dealing with a current issue of the financial sector, which focuses on the field of tension between IT-based product or IT-based service innovation. This is done on the basis of selected problems, such as the conceptual development of a new financial information system or a critical analysis of IT innovations and current regulation in the financial industry. In addition to the theoretical foundation for this elaboration, empirical analyzes need to be conducted by the project groups. Through the project focus of this course students are prepared for common team and project work within organizations. Examination: Presentation (approx. 15 minutes) Examination prerequisites: Regular and active participation in the seminar Examination requirements: Self-guided, scientific editing of an assignment in the field of financial management within a project group.
