Welcome to the Group Computational Geoscience!
We are part of the Geoscience Centre of the University of Göttingen and funded by the DFG Heisenberg Program. Our research is centred around developing physics-based and data-driven computational models for complex geosystems such as earth surface processes or evolving phase-change processes in the cryosphere.
We are particularly interested in investigating the predictability of computational models. This requires to combine traditional forward-models with novel computational techniques for physics-informed uncertainty quantification, Bayesian model selection and optimal experimental design.
Together with our national and international partners we leverage these techniques to address open questions in the geoscience, e.g. by investigating the role of biogeochemical feedbacks for subglacial and englacial ecosystems on Earth and Beyond, by developing simulation-based decision support tools for geohazards such as landslides and avalanches, and by determining intelligent data acquisition concepts for autonomous exploration robots.
