About us

Fields of research

The PhD students will either specialize in an experimental or in a theoretical discipline. Fields of research include:

  • all experimental "omics" disciplines, i.e. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics,
  • bioimaging,
  • important theoretical disciplines, i.e. stochastics, theoretical physics, bioinformatics, biometrics, and computational biology.

  • Key features

  • PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) within 3-4 years
  • Close cooperation between several faculties at the University of Göttingen, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, the German Primate Center, the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, and the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen.
  • Cutting edge research program
  • Scientific as well as soft skill courses
  • Multi-disciplinary environment, on Göttingen Campus
  • Embedded in the Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences, Biophysics and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB)
  • Supervision of PhD students by two PIs, one an experimentalist and one with a computational or theoretical background is possible

  • Time line
Application until April 15, 2017; recruitment day on May 31, 2017; start of PhD projects in October 2017
