Introductory Week and Welcoming Events

Göttingen International/ The International Office organizes an introduction week and welcoming events for international students at the beginning of each semester. They are designed to help students get off to a quicker start and find their way around Göttingen easier and are highly recommendable.

Apart from those introductory events,"Göttingen International" offers also trips to German cities of political, cultural and historical interest as well as to other general touristic attractions. Regular language workshops, salsa courses, cooking and movie evenings, a course for creative writing as well as featured-country evenings aimed at promoting intercultural exchange are organized by students for students in the "Foyer International".

"Hallo und Auf Wiedersehen" - German Classes for International Students

International students have the possibility to take German classes during the semester alongside their regular courses. The Language Center German as a Foreign Language ("Lektorat Deutsch als Fremdsprache") offers a great variety of different courses. The prerequisite for attending the courses is the German Language Placement Test, which can be taken at the start of every semester.

For students of international degree programmes, who wish to start to communicate in German, the Language Center offers also special courses. There are, for example, intensive courses starting about a month before the start of the period of lectures. Please see the website of the Language Center for further details.
