M.WIWI-VWL.0008: Development Economics I

Learning outcome:

Prescription:
Expose students to macroeconomic issues in economic development, including how
economic growth, trade, inequality, aid, capital flows, and population issues affect
economic development. They understand historical roots of underdevelopment and
acquire knowledge of current economic models and empirical approaches in these topic
areas.

Exam:
Written examination (90 minutes)

Prerequisite for examination:
The students demonstrate a good understanding of key theories and models of
economic development. They are able to critically present these theories and models,
are able to interpret empirical results that relate to these models, and are able to
crucially draw relevant policy conclusions coming out of these models and empirical
assessments.

Recommended previous knowledge:
Knowledge of macroeconomics and econometrics at
BA level is highly desirable.
